A not so daily record of the soundtrack to my life.

Hip Hop

Expansion?

So yeah, I’m thinking about expanding this blog to include other things BESIDES music. Like, movies, art, humour, video games, etc. I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while because I don’t think I post on a frequent enough basis with this blog, so having more things to blog about would increase my output.

My average hits per day has been steadily declining as well. I get around 100 views per day now, and only have 26 people who’ve subscribed to the blog updates. I want to thank those amazing guys and gals for taking the time to visit this blog.

I’m not sure if I’ll just ditch this blog and start the new one, or try to transfer all these posts over (which would take  forever). If you’ve got any advice, hit me up using the contact buttons over in the sidebar :)

Here’s some cool music videos, so this post won’t be completely useless.

BASEMENT JAXX – “FEELINGS GONE (FEAT. SAM SPARRO)

THE TEMPER TRAP – “SCIENCE OF FEAR”

PATO POOH – “FOLLOW ME”

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE – “MY GIRLS”

Summer: It Is Upon Us!

Okay, so maybe I’m a little early, but I’m in full summer mode now that finals are over and school is out. So I’ve been searching far and wide (kinda) to find some cool songs to blast obnoxiously (not really) out of my car stereo on my way to the beach this summer. Here are some early favorites.

PASSION PIT – SLEEPYHEAD

FRENCH HORN REBELLION – BEACHES AND FRIENDS (HEY CHAMP REMIX)

CHILDISH GAMBINO – BITCH, LOOK AT ME NOW

If this track sounds familiar, it’s because he samples the song “Two Weeks” by Grizzly Bear.

PHOENIX – LASSO (TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB REMIX)

FOALS – THIS ORIENT

Hopefully this will be a good summer for music. Leave me suggestions!

Use the spiffy new buttons in the sidebar and hit me up on GMail, Twitter, or Last.fm

Introducing…Random Tuesdays! Vol. 1

So, in an ironic effort to add some form of consistency to this blog, I’m gonna try something new for awhile called Random Tuesdays. Essentially, every Tuesday I’ll post about five songs or videos that I like, at random, regardless of genre. This will guarantee I post at least once a week! Normally I try to make each of my posts revolve around the particular type or style of music I’m into at that moment, but most of the time I’m all over the place. On Random Tuesdays ANYTHING GOES! :]

CHILD REBEL SOLDIER – “US PLACERS”  (FEAT. THOM YORKE)                       Genre: Hip Hop

“All the money in the world, don’t make it pain-less”

LAURA VEIRS – “JULY FLAME”                         Genre: Alternative

“Can I call you mine?”

OH, SLEEPER – “VICES LIKE VIPERS”                         Genre: Metal

“Why do we keep what holds us? Why do I keep what holds me down?”

CRYSTAL CASTLES – “DOE DEER”                         Genre: Electronic

“Death ray, you need it.”

IMOGEN HEAP – “HIDE AND SEEK”                         Genre: Alternative

“You don’t care a bit, mm, no, you don’t care a bit.”

Airplanes feat. Hayley Williams of Paramore

This morning B.o.B released his latest single, titled “Airplanes”, on his Official Website. The song features Hayley Williams of Paramore and if you take my word for things (I don’t blame you if you don’t) the song is amazing. B.o.B is finally getting more attention in the mainstream and it’s great because he doesn’t seem to have watered down any of his lyrical prowess whatsoever. Check it out!

LYRICS

(Chorus)
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now, a wish right now, a wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now, a wish right now, a wish right now

(Verse 1)
I could use a dream or a Jeanie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
Cause after all the partyin and smashin and crashin
And all the glitz and glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time when you fade to the blackness
And when you’re starin at the phone in your lap
And you hopin but them people never call you back
But that’s just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel in the sand
What would you wish for if you had one chance?
So airplane airplane sorry I’m late
I’m on my way so don’t close that gate
If I don’t make that then I’ll switch my flight and
I’ll be right back at it by the end of the night

(Chorus 1x)

(Verse 2)
Yeah somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah back when I was trying to get into the subway
And back when I was rappin for the hell of it
But nowadays we rappin to stay relevant
I’m guessing that if we could make some wishes out or airplanes
Then maybe oh maybe I’d go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when aint nobody listened to my mix tape
And back before when I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for the Decatur what’s up Bobby Ray
So can I get a wish to end the politics
And get back to the music that started this shit
So here I stand and then again I say
I’m hopin we can make some wishes outa airplanes

(Chorus 2x)
I could really use a wish right now
I could really use a wish right now
Like, like, like shootin stars
I could really use a wish right now
A wish a wish right now

People I Like: Dan Auerbach & Patrick Carney

Dan Auerbach & Patrick Carney

Two of the coolest guys you’ll ever hear about, vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney, are the two members of The Black Keys; one of the bands I wanted to mention in my last post who also have a new album coming out in May called Brothers which I’m fired up about.

Coming May 18th, 2010

Here’s the video for the first single off the album, “Tighten Up”

Yes, yes, they got soul.

Apart from The Black Keys, Auerbach and Carney each have different projects which they’ve been involved in. Auerbach released a solo album last year titled Keep It Hid. Check out this video for “Heartbroken, In Disrepair” below, and listen to more of his solo work HERE.

Carney also released an album in 2009 called Feel Good Together, with his own band, Drummer. Which, not surprisingly, has a more upbeat sound:

BUT as if that wasn’t enough for these guys, they also teamed up with 11 of hip hop’s most talented artists to create BlakRoc, which was ALSO released in 2009. Talk about a busy year, right?

Artists on the album include: Mos Def, Raekwon, Q-Tip, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA, Jim Jones, Nicole Wray, NOE, Pharoahe Monch, Billy Danze, and Ludacris. Proving that rock ‘n’ roll and hip hop can be fused together with great success. Check it out.

So in conclusion, Dan Auerbach and Partick Carney are two guys that always bring the funk, in whatever they do :P

Don’t forger to check out their new album May 18th!!!

That is all. :)
