How’d He Do That? – Jason Derulo Samples Imogen Heap

Jason Derulo and Imogen Heap

So, being the music nerd that I am, I decided to figure out exactly how Jason Derulo sampled “Hide and Seek” by Imogen Heap for his “Whatcha Say” song. Took me like five minutes! :D I recorded the process and posted it on YouTube for internet posterity :-B

All I did was increase the pitch of Immi’s original by 10.29% and the tempo by 15%

Fired Up About…

So we’re just about four months into 2010, and I think this will be a great year for music of all genres to come up with exciting and fresh sounds and ideas. The list of bands I can’t wait to hear new things from is endless! But, for the sake of time and space I’ll limit this post to just the five I’m MOST excited about. “O let’s do it!”

He’s been hard at work in the studio with the likes of Dev Hynes and Solange Knowles, putting the finishing touches on his latest musical odyssey. Here’s a sneak peak of his upcoming single “Flying Overseas”

I’m a huge fan of these guys. A LOT of people have been anxiously anticipating a new album for years now and by the looks of it, it will not disappoint. Check out the album website HERE, where snippets of each song are played as you solve interactive puzzles! Also, check out this intense music video for their current single, “Spanish Sahara”.

These days it’s hard to find many positive hip hop songs that get regular radio play, but Lupe has always seemed to be one of the exceptions to this “rule”. Hopefully this trend will continue with the upcoming release of his new album, Lasers. The first single off the album, “I’m Beamin”, was released a little over a month ago.

Technically, since this came out in February, I suppose it’s not somthing I’m “fired up about”. More like, “I’m still fired up for!” sorta thing, if that makes any sense. In any case, if you haven’t already given these guys a listen, please check them out. They definitely have a lot more success ahead of them. Check out this live performance of their hit song, “Wide Eyes”.

Paul Mullen, Gordon Moakes, and William Bowerman

Probably the most interesting of my choices, considering these guys have only played one gig to date, and have yet to release any music publicly. The band consists of guitarist Gordon Moakes (Bloc Party), singer Paul Mullen (Yourcodenameis:milo), and drummer William Bowerman (I Was A Cub Scout). They’re currently still in the process of recording, but in the meantime here’s “Wait A Minute”. The result of the previous time Moakes and Mullen worked together.

That’s it for now! More coming soon!

Hope everyone’s having a good week :)

Because…it’s the WEEKEND! :D

SO here’s some of what I’ve been “bumpin”. I was in a chill mood pretty much all day today, and most of the time the music I listen to will usually reflect the mood I’m in. Sooo without further adooo…

JUST found out about this guy, I like his creative sampling of old records.

Keep an eye out for Theophilus London this year, he’s working on some new material  and it should be FRESHHH, er “PHRESH”. Whatever the kids these days say…

Theophilus London

Really, if you haven’t heard of these two by now then I don’t know what to tell you. They are insane in the best of ways!

Alice Glass and Ethan Kath

Devonté Hynes

Blood Orange is the side project of Devonté Hynes, better known as Lightspeed Champion. While Lightspeed has more of an alternative pop rock sound, Blood Orange’s style is more similar to 80’s funk and soul.

XV is another rapper I’d keep an eye on in 2010, he’s got excellent lyrical ability to go along with beats catchy enough to play at any club.

That’s it for now, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend :P
